What’s On The Horizon – September 2022

What’s on the Horizon September 2022

Building projects you’ll love, and love building together – since 1989.

Project of the month

Mosman Residence II

As seems to be quite a common theme with the projects we have been engaged to look at over the last few years, this home in Mosman has extensive water issues that required considered and detailed attention, prior to us undertaking a full refurbishment of the interiors of the 3-storey home with wonderful views of the entrance to Sydney Harbour.

Horizon Golf Championship

Our annual Golf Championship is just around the corner. Last year at Avondale Golf Club, we managed to raise $16,000 for kids in need.

This year, we will be playing at one of Sydney’s best new courses – Stonecutter’s Ridge.

  • Tuesday 12th October. Shotgun start @ 08:00. Cart between 2 included.
  • have a great day out in the sun,
  • come alone and meet new people, or bring friends or clients along and make a four-ball
  • help raise money for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.
  • Lots of great prizes
  • Lunch and auction after your round included.

Email us if you’d like to join us on the day!

If you can’t play, but would like to make a donation to this most worthy cause, you can go directly to our fundraising page and make a tax-deductible donation.

Recent news

3rd La Niña coming

The weather bureau has issued a warning that it’s going to be another wet spring and summer… the third in a row.

Now is the time to prpare, but doing some preventative maintence around the house

  • Clear the gutters of leaves and debris
  • Clear all drains
  • Check all your pits and pumps
  • Make sure there’s adequate ventilation around the house. Open the windows!

We recently invited a few clients to join us at the 2022 Mates in Construction annual golf day. Despite an under-par performance from the team, we did not feature on the winner’s list – but a great day was had regardless!

More importantly, we were able to continue our many years of support of a great charity that raises funds and awareness for Suicide Prevention in the Building Industry.

Did you know…

  • Construction workers are 6x more likely to die by suicide, than an accident at work?
  • We lose a construction worker to suicide every second day of the year!

Cool Products

Google have released a series of Nest cameras that work wirelessly, connecting to your home (or in our case building site) Wi-Fi network, and also using a rechargeable battery that lasts between 2 and up to 7 months on one charge (depending on usage). They are rated IP54, so can be positioned outside or inside, and can also be permanently plugged in to a charger, and never run out of power. Cameras can then be accessed via the Google Home app on your phone, tablet, or desktop. The system can notify you when someone is detected, has facial recognition, and can tell the difference between a person, an animal, and a vehicle as well. They have a speaker and microphone, so are effectively an online intercom. Because they’re wireless, they are very flexible in terms of where they can be located, you can add as many as you wish to the home network, and are relatively inexpensive to buy and simple to install.

We are trialling them on several of our sites at the moment, providing site security, and also our staff, clients and designers the ability to dial in and watch progress on site live!
