A win well-deserved, and definitely worth celebrating!
We’re delighted to interrupt our regular Horizon programming to share some very exciting news…
This past Friday night, Horizon won the award for Residential Construction ($2M–$25M) at the Australian Institute of Building NSW Professional Excellence Awards, for our Potts Point Penthouses II project. The achievement now sees the entry through to the National awards to be held next month.
Positioned atop an existing nine-storey residential building, this project delivered two side-by-side penthouses, each with its own outlook — one embracing sweeping Sydney Harbour views, the other framed by the city skyline and the Opera House. It’s a bold architectural addition to one of Potts Point’s most tightly held precincts, and arguably one of the most complex builds our team has ever delivered.
Adding an entirely new level above an occupied building brought a level of difficulty most projects never face. There was no ground-level access for conventional scaffolding, so our team worked with our engineering and scaffolding partners to design a bespoke cantilevered scaffold system, engineered directly into the new and existing structure. The building’s single lift was restricted to residents and hand tools only, meaning every piece of material and every scrap of waste had to be craned in and out — within a strict weekday window shared with council, police and local traffic requirements. All the while, residents continued living in the building below us, throughout a build that ran close to two years.
It would have been easy for a project with this level of complexity to run over time, over budget, or compromise on safety. Instead, it was delivered on program and finished impeccably — a direct result of meticulous planning, close collaboration, and a project team that refused to cut corners under pressure. This award is a genuine testament to that.
None of it happens without the right people around the table. Our thanks to:
